Sydney International Equestrian Centre world-class upgrades underway

December 2017

The Office of Sport is undertaking an exciting upgrade to the surface of Arena 5 and 6 to ensure the Sydney International Equestrian Centre remains a premier riding facility.

The project will ensure a consistent and even riding surface, improve the orthopaedic health of horses, and ensure NSW athletes have access to the best practice conditions in preparation for the World Equestrian Games and Olympic Games.

The upgrade includes installation of a sub-surface water system, rubber cushioning and a riding surface that incorporates fine sand, geotextile and fibre additives.

Testing of the surface was undertaken in Januray 2018 and stood up well. With the project now near completion final testing is scheduled for 31 January. Additional works to the fence around Arena 6 will also be completed to ensure the arena is safe and fit for purpose.

To allow for the upgrade, Arena 5 and 6 will be closed until the project and final testing is completed in January 2018.

Thank you for your patience as we undergo these exciting changes and we look forward to all events utilising the new arena upgrades once finished.
